For the IEE, the MA in Development Management is a real success story. Since its first launch in 2000 not less than 2241 applications from applicants coming from 129 different countries of the world have been received.
Until today a number of 162 of these applicants have been selected as students of the program. And of the 125 students selected for those intakes which have already been completed, 119 or 95% graduated from the programme.
Of these graduates 64 (54%) are male and 55 (46%) are female; 86 (78%) of the graduates received a scholarship for their studies of which 42 scholarships were given by DAAD, 16 by KAS, 7 each by KAAD and EED while 14 students received support from other organisations. Overall, the 119 graduates are from 44 different countries all over the world; 46(39%) are from Africa, 31 (26%) are from Asia, 21 (18%) are from Europe, 18 (15%) are from Latin America, 2 (2%) are from the Middle East (Palestine) and finally 1 or 1% is from Oceania (Samoa).
At the moment, the top-five countries in terms of number of graduates are Germany (18), Ethiopia (12), Indonesia (7), Vietnam (6) and Afghanistan (5). The average grade our graduates realized is "good" (2.42 on the German grading scale). To be more precisely: 8% completed their studies with the grade "very good", 48,8% with "good", 35,2% with "satisfactory" and 3,2% with "sufficient".

MADM 2006-2008 Top Master Students
But the most interesting aspect is related to the whereabouts of our graduates which are regularly recorded as part of our Alumni work. Data is currently available for more than 70% of our graduates and of these not less than 45% are working in international, bilateral, regional or national organisations of development cooperation. Another 14% are engaged with developmental NGOs while 5% are working as consultants. 18% are active as lecturers at universities in their home countries and 5% are currently undertaking PhD studies. Being confronted with such a rich body of professional experience relevant for the work of the IEE it is high time to organize the first regional Alumni conferences which is on the schedule for next year. |
