News: Academic Achievements

Two new IEE members, Catherine Biira and Elkhan Sadik-Zada, have been awarded a PhD.
After the successful defense of her PhD Thesis on July 15, 2015, Catherine Promise Biira from Gayaza, Uganda has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.). Her thesis on "Collective Identity and Prospects for Political Integration: A Case Study of the East African Community" was supervised by Prof. Dr. Christof Hartmann and Prof. em. Dr. Uwe Andersen. Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Löwenstein chaired the oral exam. Catherine, who has also been the PhD IDS representative of IEE Research Cluster 1, has already returned to her work and family in Uganda. Congratulations, Cathy!!

A few days earlier, on July 10, 2015, IEE research fellow and economist Elkhan Sadik-Zada from Baku, Azerbaijan, also successfully defended his PhD Thesis and has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.). His thesis on "Oil Abundance and Economic Growth" was supervised by Prof. em. Dr. Dieter Bender and Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Löwenstein. Prof. em. Dr. Werner Voß chaired the oral exam. Congratulations, Elkhan!
