News: American Sociologist from Cornell University Joined the IEE as Guest Professor

From 15 October until 15 December, Professor Shelley Feldman from Cornell University has been part of the IEE as a Visiting Scholar. In her research as a sociologist, she has been working on a number of development-related topics. During her stay she has enriched the course work of the PhD IDS by giving courses on “’Development’ and Change: Critical Debates in Feminist Thinking” and “Thinking Development: Theories, Discourse, Practices, Challenges”.

Moreover, her previous work has dealt with topics that have also been addressed by other IEE members, often coming from other disciplines. Her work on garment workers and the garment industry in Bangladesh, as well as her research on land grabbing and displacement especially match research projects and interests of some IEE members. Therefore, Shelley Feldman’s presence and knowledge sharing in cluster sessions on "Garment Workers in Bangladesh and the Regulation of Garment Industry and Labour Markets" and on "Land-Grabbing and Displacement" has been a great benefit to the IEE.

We hope to continue the inspiring exchanges with Prof. Feldman after this two-month period.
