AlumnIEE: Reintegration Course for Students from Developing Countries

“Getting prepared – Returning home and integrating into your country’s labour market”

“Getting prepared – Returning home and integrating into your country’s labour market” is a workshop targeted at Master’s students who have finished their Masters’ degrees in either “Development Management” at the Ruhr-University Bochum or “SPRING” at the TU Dortmund. The Workshop took place for the very first time at the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE) on 14 and 15 July, 2017.

The two-day reintegration course was held by Dr. Julia Boger from the World University Service (WUS). As most of the students came from developing countries, the overall aim was to prepare them for their return to the labour market of their home countries, which can be a huge challenge.

Among other things, the students received knowledge about how to strategically use their personal networks and how to successfully manage application processes. Additionally, organizations from their home countries were presented. To round off the workshop, the students participated in an experimental game, where they acted out different roles in order to malinger the whole reintegration process. This was another step in gaining more valuable experiences for their time back at home.

The reintegration course was organized by Robin Pass, the coordinator of the German Association of Postgraduate Programmes (AGEP). As a long-term goal, students from all 38 AGEP study programms will gain access to the course in the future.
