Report on final Urban Food Plus steps

The Urban Food Plus Team at Egerton University, Kenya.


From the 3rd to the 4th of December 2018, the final GlobE conference took place in Naivasha, Kenya. Around 250 participants from Germany and several African countries took part in the conference. In plenary presentations and exhibitions, six GlobE projects were presented to this international audience. In four parallel dialogue sessions, participants discussed potential uptake and upscaling of GlobE research results. From the IEE, Prof. Dr. Löwenstein and Christina Seeger attended. Together, they moderated a Science-Development Dialogue on the topic of “New technologies for improved food security and food safety: Welfare impacts, adoption potential, and how to deal with adoption barriers”. Additionally, Christina Seeger presented a poster on “Economic Valuation of food quality improvements in West African Cities: A comparative analysis of Tamale, Ouagadougou, and Bamenda”.

Afterwards, the final workshop of the Urban Food Plus project took place at Egerton University, Kenya. For two days, project participants presented and discussed results. From the IEE, Prof. Dr. Löwenstein and Nicole Dittrich reported on the results of SP7. Furthermore, Nicole Dittrich presented a poster with the title: "Productivity of urban farmers - Comparing Three (Plus One) West African Cities". The workshop was also an opportunity for participants to discuss further possible research endeavors, continuing the tradition of forming international collaborations between the IEE and African universities.
