SA-GER CDR: New Graduates & Scholarhip Holders

Britta Niklas congratulates two new graduates and welcomes two new scholarship holders to the South African - German Centre for Development Research

Despite the challenges of having to do research remotely and meeting their supervisors only on zoom, two of our DAAD scholarship holders graduated this year in the PhD in Development Studies programme:

Jeremy Waiswa from Uganda graduated in May 2021. His thesis is entitled: The Dwelling as a Workspace: Urban Planning and Home-Based Entrepreneurs in Kampala City Slums

Fikrewold Tamirat from Ethiopia graduated in September 2021. His thesis title is: An Assessment of Social Capital in Rural Ethiopia: the Case of Aresi and Menze.

Congratulations to you both!

We are as well happy to welcome two new scholarship holders in January 2022 to our Centre. Out of about 300 applicants, the selection committee chose Sibongiseni Sidwell Phunguza from South Africa for the Master's in Development Studies and Lucia Osei Asamoah from Ghana for the Master’s in Public Administration.
