20151118155040 bAfter successful defense of his PhD Thesis on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, Akhmad Solikin from Madiun, Indonesia, has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor(Ph.D.). His thesis on "Revealing Willingness to Pay and Willingness to Work to Avoid Deforestation and Forest Degradation Using Contingent Valuation Method: Evidences from Indonesia" was supervised by Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Löwenstein and Prof. Dr. Helmut Karl. Prof. Dr. Markus Kaltenborn chaired the oral exam.

Paper on national housing strategies in Brazil, South Africa and Marocco

BeierVilmondes-AlvesTwo Cluster 2 members, Raffael Beier and Mariana Vilmondes, published together a peer reviewed paper on national housing strategies in Brazil, South Africa, and Morocco in the context of Habitat III in the special issue "Global South" of the journal RaumPlanung (182/6-2015). The article (in German language) is titled "Dominanz des Quantitativen - Das Dilemma des Rechts auf angemessenen Wohnraum in Brasilien, Marokko und Südafrika."

Workshop: Urban Governance in a Global Perspective

The first international workshop of the IEE-Research Cluster 2 under the topic "Urban Governance in a Global Perspective - Contributions to the Habitat III Debate" took place at the IEE in Bochum on the 12th of November 2015. More than 30 participants from different disciplinary but also cultural backgrounds such as Sub-Sahara Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Europe, East and South Asia attended the workshop.

UFP Summer School October 2015

The third annual Summer School of the BMBF-funded research project Urban FoodPlus (UFP) took place from 4th to 9th October 2015. Alternating between West Africa and Germany, this year’s summer school was hosted by the IEE at the RUB’s Blue Square in the city centre of Bochum.
