German universities are setting the pace when it comes to developing a functioning education system in Afghanistan. The IEE is part of the reconstruction programme. Education fosters peace in Afghanistan
The IEE Newsletter is a multi-purpose instrument, addressed to different target groups: It keeps actual and potential partners up to date with our multifaceted development activities. It is a platform to present some of our results in development research. Finally, it keeps links to our “AlumnIEEs”, members of the IEE alumni association. To enable the newsletter to serve all these purposes, we decided to publish it in English. We hope you will not only find the newsletter informative, but feel inspired to get in contact with the IEE, commenting on our work or even seeing opportunities to cooperate with us.

Alumni view on the Fifa World Cup 2010 in South Africa: Dayana Dreke
Ke Nako - This time for Africa!
Colourful country flags and sonorous vuvuzelas, sunshine and blue winter sky, new streets, hotels and safe public places, as well as an impressive new stadium and a fanzone full of excited people from all over the world. Wamkelekile iKapa (Welcome to Cape Town)! How lucky were we to experience the first FIFA World Cup on African soil in one, if not the most beautiful city in the world!
Despite negative international headlines beforehand, South Africa succeeded in proving all skeptics it´s ability to host one of the world´s biggest sports events. Cape Town even presented itself as an environmentally consicious World Cup host with its ´Green Goal Campaign´, from energy-efficient technologies for the new stadium, new CO2 reducing shuttle busses to the introduction of a recycling systems for all public bins in the central city.

Living in South Africa during the World Cup
It is difficult to describe life in South Africa during the World Cup. The official slogan ‘feel it, it is here' captures it all. You can feel it everywhere. The newspapers are full of World Cup articles and opadds. There is no shop, restaurant and street without World Cup branding. I had a good laugh when I read Peter Davis' "Open letter to our foreign media friends". It is hilarious how he addressed journalists who before the World Cup saw a civil war coming upon South Africa and painting a picture of tourists being robbed and mugged at every corner. Reconciling he states at the end to just get out there and experience what is happening.
Weitere Informationen finden Sie hier.
