Within the European Joint Doctorate "ADAPTED" - Eradicating Poverty - Pathways towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, short term visiting researcher positions of a duration between 4-12 months are offered. Being part of the ADAPTED work package 1 (Validating pathways to poverty reduction), interested Early Stage Researchers will have the opportunity to work at the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique, University Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne in areas related to “Universal health coverage in West Africa”. After a successful and very insightful first Annual Meeting in Bochum at the beginning of the year, the second meeting bringing together the entire ADAPTED consortium took place at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam from 28 November to 2 December in The Hague, Netherlands.

After successful defence of her PhD Thesis on Tuesday 11 October 2022, Britta Holzberg has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) under the joint PhD agreement between the IEE and the International Institute of Social Studies.

On 5 September 2022, the new Bochum group of MA in Development Management students started their studies. For the formal opening and the opening of the 2022 summer school the students of the MADM at UWC also arrived at the IEE.
After successful defence of his PhD Thesis on Tuesday 24 May 2022, Callistus Akachabwon Agbaam from Ghana has been awarded the degree of a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.).
Former IEE student Gerald Ahabwe, MADM Alumnus of 2009, was installed as President of the Phd Fellows at Makerere University (Pf@Mak) last week. This group was established to "bring together PhD fellows to actively provide each other with mutual academic support, producing timely high quality research through networking, peer reviewing, sharing funding opportunities and timely study completion."
