Dear Reader,

Over the last few years the activities of the Institute have widened and deepened. The IEE has embarked on a new cooperation project with partner institutions under the umbrella of the UA Ruhr Graduate Centre. It coordinates the consortium of 6 South African and 7 European Higher Education Institutions involved in the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Mobility Programme EUSA-ID. With our research work we contribute to the interdisciplinary, BMBF-funded Urban Food Plus project. Finally, our research fellows and PhD students have formed research clusters to foster academic exchange activities among them regarding their specific research areas. In order to give adequate visibility to these new activities and structures and make information about the IEE more accessible we have given our website a major face-lift. Since June 2014, as some of you may have already noticed, the new website of the IEE has been shining with a new layout and structure. Along with the new website also comes the newsletter in a new web-based format. We hope you will like it!
