IEE research fellow Dr Martina Shakya was an invited speaker at the annual conference of the German Nepal Friendship Association (DNG e.V.), which took place on 28 May 2011 at the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut in Bonn. In her presentation on "New tourism products in Nepal", she stressed the importance of diversifying Nepal's tourism offer, in order to develop new market segments and to spread the economic benefits of tourism. This year's "Nepal Day" of the German Nepal Friendship Association focussed on tourism, as the Government of Nepal has declared the "Nepal Tourism Year 2011" with the target to attract one million international visitors.
