MADM coordinator Tobias Thürer reports on the new Bochum group of the MADM intake 2016-18 starting their studies.


Finally, they are here: the candidates of the current MADM intake's Bochum group arrived. 24 students from 16 countries are itching to throw themselves into their studies. After having familiarised themselves with their new environment by attending an intensive German language course for six weeks, they started the MA programme with the Summer School in Bochum. For this Summer School, they met their fellow students from the Cape Town group, who already finalised their first semester beforehand. Apart from pursuing a course in statistical methods of social sciences, they enjoyed diverse components of the summer school, such as presentations by experts from developmental organisations, a seminar on teambuilding and intercultural communication, as well as a 4-day trip to Berlin (including a guided tour through the Bundestag and Bundesrat).
Now, the members of the Bochum group are in their first semester, while the Cape Townians complete their internships in pertinent development organisations. After the Christmas Break, both groups will reunite again for the Summer School in Cape Town in January 2017.
